My first night out with AstroMaster 130EQ-MD
Hi everyone!
I finally got a chance to take out my telescope for the first time since I've received it..which was 3 weeks ago! Unfortunately, the weather hasn't been all that great, so tonight was my chance. It was a beautiful day with 60 degrees and cloudless skies. At night, it turned to 40 degrees with cloudless skies. So of course, I decided to get out into my backyard and just randomly look around, since I am not 100% familiar with the use of telescopes. I camped out in my backyard at 11pm (April 9th), to be exact I took my telescope out on the deck by the pool to be up higher.

And then I decided to move the telescope down on the ground, cause it will be much more stable than the deck. I rotated my telescope so I could see the moon! Of course it was a full moon, so I couldn't really stare at the moon through the eyepiece for too long, cause it would blind me (I'll have to get those filters)!! And then I decided, that even though my digital camera isn't so great, I'll attempt to take a picture of the Moon! I took a few, but only one was a decent one! I didn't use the piggy mount for my camera, I don't have any mounts to hold the camera to take the picture, I was holding my Nikon CoolPix 4100 with my hand, right up in the eyepiece. And actually came out with a decent picture :) Don't even ask how I did this, but somehow it happened

Then I spent until 2am talking to my brother on the phone, asking what I should do and where I should move it. Then had some troubles aligning it and actually finding what I wanted to. The moon was TOO bright, and lit up a lot of the sky. Plus it was very light polluted already, so it was hard to see! But either way, Im glad I got one decent moon picture, since it was the biggest thing in the sky! I packed up by 2am, and went back inside. So this is my first astronomy night with my own telescope:)))

- Alright Eva....!!!! Glad you got it out an got time to play around the stars,Thats great very first photo ever un-cam mounted an un-filtered..its highly addicting trying to get "the perfect shot"...Welcome to the Club!!...Clear Sky's!!
Bozo - That's awesome Eva! You're a step ahead of me - I STILL haven't managed to take a decent photo thru the telescope eyepiece! Well done! BTW - my scope came with Celestrons "The Sky" software...if yours did too, it's really useful to find things (like nebulae) to point your scope at. Regards, Mike
- Hi Eva, when it comes to taking photos through the eyepiece (digiscoping), Hellobozos the man! He'll be able to share all kinds of tips and tricks. Glad to hear you finally got first light with your scope. As soon as the Moon starts to wane in the next couple of days, you'll get some great views through your scope of other celestial objects, especially the Orion Nebula. But you better hurry, Orion's already heading towards the Sun, so you'll have about a month left to view it. Have fun!
- Congrats on your first shots, Eva!
- Nice job, Eva! There's one thing that never goes away, either. It's the feeling of anticipation as the frames load up in your image program and you start seeing what you captured. You're well on your way. Heh, my first shots were with my cell phone camera through a 76mm newtonian of the Lunar Eclipse in Feb '08. I should repost that image so you can see. But, you're lucky, you got much better resolution that I did. Keep going with it and post the results. They look good already! Next thing you know you'll be taking better pictures than all of us!
- Alright - first light! Congrats on the first pic too (with digital cameras ,why not try?). You'll get hooked. Take the time and allot patience to learn how to align your scope and next thing you know, you'll be knocking off a list of objects. Then you'll want to observe in a dark-sky location, then help preserve and get dark skies where you are.... Have fun with astronomy!
- Nice to see that u have started with photos, i'm lerning 2 so it will be fun to see your progress. i have a thing that u can set on your ocular and put a digital camera on. it cost about 35$. with that i have take all my photos. so i think that is a good start for u.
