The wait is over!

We are very proud to announce the release of the 1st episode of "The Path of Light" documentary.

Episode 1: "Generation of Dreamers" focuses on Celestron's founder, Tom Johnson, an electrical engineer, who developed the techniques for mass producing Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescopes, making these powerful astronomical instruments accessible to amateur astronomers.

It will be good to see the other episodes - oral history for the company and amateur astro.

GammaFX (Alex K) did an excellent job writing and directing Episode 1 of "The Path of Light." I know Tom and Marcia Johnson are very pleased with Episode 1 of this documentary, as we all are. Imagine what amateur astronomy would be like today if it wasn't for Tom Johnson? There will be more episodes to follow in the future. Hang tight.

It was good to catch up with Tom and Allen after all these years. In 1971, Tom was kind enough to
spend part of his Saturday giving a tour of his company to my wife and I. After what I learned that day, I purchased scopes for the planetarum where I was the director. I also purchased number 22 of the first run of C 14s in May of 1973. This telescope is still in my observatory being used.
My best wishes to Tom, Allen and Celestron on this their 50-anniversary.

Yes, my first telescope was a C-8, too; then a C-14, which I donated to a private school some years later.

15 years hence still thinking of buying another C-14, this time with the HD optics, and the Pro Mound.

    Great video.

I'd put Tom Johnson right up there with the guys from HP and Steve Wozniak and Jobs, etc. He comes from an era when intelligence met with the true nature of ingenuity. When people had an idea, they made it happen, literally, and it helped produce the means to our existence today. He's a genius in any sense of thew word and should be regarded as having hanged a little about history.

I enjoyed this presentation VERY MUCH and greatly appreciate Celestron's vision and follow through on this type of public relations/educational effort. When the other episodes are complete, it would be great to get the series formatted and aired on PBS, Science Channel, History Channel or the like. I learned some new things - - GREAT!!

I absolutely loved this video! I wasn't aware of the tremendous contribution that the founder of Celestron Telescopes had made to amateur astronomy. I've always wanted to own a quality telescope and this video has certainly made me consider Celestron! Beautifully done!

A wonderful succinct history of a great company, and a nice, concise explanation of what a telescope's purpose is. I look forward to future episodes of this documentary. Incidentally, as a composer, I appreciate the use of the Faure as your sountrack! I am a proud owner of a CPC 1100. My thanks to a great and visionary company!

I had a Celestron Nexstar 8. I bought it shortly after its introduction. It gave me many hours of pleasure. After losing it in Katrina I bought a Celestron CPC 8. It has givem me equal pleasure and enabled me do really exciting astro imaging. Thank you Tom Johnson for your vision and hard work to see it fulfilled.

Fantastic! Reminds me of Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the LORD with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight

It seems a bit ironic that a celebration of the birth of a company, not to mention an industry, would be framed by music from a requiem. You guys know, of course, that a requiem is music for a funeral, don't you?

The Path of Light is a wonderful presentation. I sold and used Celestron telescopes in the 1970s and 80s. While visiting Palm Desert in the early 1990s I was in Marcia's gift shop, saw a C8 on display, asked a question, and the next thing I knew I was a visitor at Tom and Marcia Johnson's home. I spent the afternoon with Tom, talking optics, history and telescope gear and had a most memorable and great day! He is an amazing man that has given the astronomy enthusiasts a gift that we continue to enjoy every day (night). Thank you Tom Johnson.
